Finding a file and comparing

Hey all!

So this is my problem: when a txtfile is processed, its moved to a directory called YYMMDDHHMMSSSS.
Example: /Processed/090624005217
And I want to check that the file ends up in that folder. One of my problems is that I dont know the exact name of that folder..

Then i want to compare that file, and see that its exactly the same as
another file called $TEMP_FILE=/bla/blabla/blah.txt

This is what ive done so far >
Code:
DATE=`date +%y%m%d`
find /Processed/$DATE* blah.txt

It outputs:
/Processed/090624005217
/Processed/090624005217/blah.txt
find: cannot open blah.txt: No such file or directory

But where do i go from here? And why does it say that it cannot open file?

Something like this..?

Code:
find /Processed/$DATE* blah.txt | diff one_file another_file

Hi,

I'm not sure where are all the files that you're trying to find exactly (is blah.txt in the same Processed/090624005217 directory than the file you're trying to compare it to?).

But I can explain the error that find outputs.
Your syntax for find is wrong.
If you use:
find /Processed/$DATE* blah.txt
find will search for find in all directories /Processed/$DATE* and blah.txt.
If blah.txt is the name you're trying to find you should use:
/Processed/$DATE* -name "blah.txt"

Hope this helps a bit.

Aah, yea. adding -name made it work much better! Thanks for help!

Ive figured out a way of comparing the output from find also.

Code:
find /Processed/$DATE* -name "blah.txt" | while read i
do
    echo "Comparing: $i"
    if diff $i $TEMP_FILE > /dev/null
    then
        echo "diff:same"
    else
        echo "diff:not same"
    fi
done
