filename in loop

i have a

filename_1=file1.dat
filename_2=file2.dat

i want to pass the filename in a loop

for((i=1;i<=2;i++)
do
awk{print $1} $filename_$i.dat [so that the file name is filename_1.dat]
done

how should i pass the filename

filename_1=file1.dat
filename_2=file2.dat
 
for((i=1;i<=2;i++))
do
  awk '{print $1}' $(eval echo \$filename_$i)
done

Quote:
[so that the file name is filename_1.dat]
But the filename is not filename_1.dat, it's file1.dat.

awk '{print $1}'  `eval  "echo \\${filename_$i}"`
done
