   # concatenate the current line to the running record of the previously encountered lines of 6 fields

   # if the running record (rec) is NOT empty

   }

   # reset the sum to 0 and rec to empty string
   sum=0; rec=""
   # assign the current line ($0) to a variable sumLine
   sumLine=$0
}
END {

# take of the trailing record - same logic as before
  if (rec)
