cron jobs faster than once a minute
I gather that using cron to execute php scripts is fairly inefficient. Also, I don't think there is a way to run them more than once a minute.

I want to write an application that would simply poll a server, recieve an xml file with some data, parse that and save the data in a mysql dbase, and do that, say, every 10 seconds: how would I go about this?

implement an infinite loop with 'sleep 10'. Then execute it as 'nohup myScript &'
