While file exists with specific extension

Hi, I need some help to see if I this is posible with a while loop. I need to run a script once a day that will take all of the *.TXT files in a folder and rename them to a specific file name structure with a .dat extension. I wrote this script, but I get an error that says " line 3: too many arguments". What is the best way to write this? Thank you.

TODAY=$(date +"%j")
FINDEX=0
while [ -f *.TXT ]
do
FILE="2751$TODAY$FINDEX.dat"
mv /test/*.TXT /test/$FILE
FINDEX = $FINDEX + 1
done

Try this: ( replace dir with the appropriate path)

Code:
today=$(date +"%j")
ind=0
for file in yourdir/*.txt;
do
new="2751$today$ind.dat";
mv $file $new
ind=$(( ind + 1 ));
done

cheers,

Devaraj, that worked great. I didn't know you could do a for loop with " file in dir ". Thanks a bunch.
