Shell Programming and Scripting

Can someone please help me with this. When i run this FOR command at the command line it does what i would expect....As you can see when i look at the contents of andy.txt it shows 2 lines simply saying fax which is what i want at this stage.

for i in `ls -1tr`
do
if [ -f $i ]
then
file2=`print $i | cut -d\. -f1`
echo $file2 >> andy.txt
fi
done

The problem i have is that in a script i am writing i am doing it in sections so creating a few functions rather than one massive script. But when i call this function from within another function it fails. It duplicates everything so if i look at andy.txt i get this output. This function is called on line 12 of the PingTest function.

I am just wondering why when i call this FOR loop as a function it does not work correctly and seems to read the contents of the directory twice.....

Hi,

since the function "DstFax02" is called by the function "PingTest", it is enough u call the function "PingTest" in the main process and not the DstFax02.
