Cron Jobs Still Running In Backgound

Hi guys,
I've got a few cron jobs ... porblem is they are running as intended but some of them just tend to stay there in sleeping mode for quite some time ... sometimes even days ... for example when i run the ps command i can see that some are still there although the same script had run many more times after that particular day !!!
Any idea folks?!
Thanks in advance Smilie

That could depend on what is in those jobs/scripts. They might be waiting for some event or condition that will never happen. Maybe add some extended logging incl. a timestamp/date to your scripts so you'll see where they get stuck/asleep.

I had a similar problem a while back. I used to kicked off a few cron jobs on a daily basis and found they were still running days later. In my case the cron jobs were hanging while trying to access remote systems, in the end I simply put in a further cron job to kill off the previous days cronjobs before invoking todays.
Not exactly a fix but it got rid of the defunct/old jobs.

Hi Zaxxon,
None of the procs or scripts need to wait for any event t occur ... the scripts are giving me proper o/p ... but i am not getting why they are still getting listed while running ps command ...

Do the scripts properly exit? Do you have an exit statement in your scripts to have them explicitly exit when they are done?
If not maybe add something like:
Code:
...
...
echo "Done! --- `date`"
exit 0

Nope ... they dont exit explicitly ... but aint they supposed to exit anyhow with a status code of 0 if they exited properly?
I'll definitely try out ur suggestion though ...
Thanks Smilie

Hi,
Sorry about the delay in replying ... but the problem seems to have come back again ... the script just runs a Java code which implements threading.
Has the threading got something to do with it?
