I want to be able to search all html files stored in a local directory for a keyword passed as an argument and output the results to a html file with links to the original files

Sorry - It took a little longer to reply for the question.

If I understand the question properly, you can use supported modules from CPAN for searching through the web using Google in an automated way given a keyword ( the same way as we search ), store the links, scrape through the links and use it
