Shell Programming and Scripting

Hi all, see i have a script that takes few arguments. first one is command we do on file, next is file (mostly txt file with lot of data) third is destination where we do something with data in file. Since im new in scripting, and im learning as i go, i need some hint how to manipulate that argument $2 (filename)

example:

process_files.sh move some/source/folder/list_of_files.txt dest/folder/

she would move all files in the list_of_files.txt to dest/folder.
First i used cat and awk to read from file and write to a new file called move_commands.txt, and then call move_commands as script. it works great. but after i move i need to delete files from "some/source/folder/" and would like to put move_commands.txt there so when i do all, i simpy remove all from source folder and prepare it for next load.

Well i made a story of all this, all i want to do is when i get input parameters i want to save $2 (some/source/folder/list_of_files.txt) to variable lets say source_file, and new variable source_folder, which should be "some/source/folder/". please help me.

you can parse arguments like below..

eval command=$1
eval source_file=$2
eval source_folder=$3

Use dirname command to get the folder name from the second argument.

source_folder=`dirname $source_file`
