Read values from a file
Hi ,

I have a file with the following content

Quote:
dt_1=12 dt_2=21 year=2008 r='T' reporting=Q4
I need the read the year and reporting from this file and store them in variables.

I understand that we can read the file delimited by'=' but not sure how to extract the values correctly.

Hammer & Screwdriver here is one approach

> year=`echo "dt_1=12 dt_2=21 year=2008 r='T' reporting=Q4" | tr " " "\n" | grep "year" | cut -d"=" -f2`
> reporting=`echo "dt_1=12 dt_2=21 year=2008 r='T' reporting=Q4" | tr " " "\n" | grep "reporting" | cut -d"=" -f2`
> echo $year $reporting
2008 Q4

# 3

Thanks joeyg,

As I was trying it I came up up with this

year=cat file.txt |tr ' ' =|cut -d= -f3
reporting=cat file.txt |tr ' ' =|cut -d= -f5
