Need help for a script
Hi all,

I have a task which has to be done with script. My task is:

I have a linux server. User's home directories are created inside /home. Now, when a user exceeds disk use 500 MB, then it should send mail to the defined address.

Will it be possible when a user exceeds the defined limit, it will send a mail or I will have to run the script by CRON at a regular interval.

Please let me know if there is any unclear thing.

Anyway, you can use the below logic:

For all directories under /home do the following (for loop):

a. check the disk usage for each directory (using du command)

b. if disk usage greater than 500M, then retrieve the email from /etc/passwd or whereever you have stored it (IF Construct).

c. send email (using mailx or sendmail).

Of course, you need to schedule the above script in cron so that it can be run periodically as per your requirement.
