he dont want the extra last line... the customer data is from 1st line till 4th line... in the sense starting 20984498494 and before the 20xxxxxxx

I get this error:

awk: syntax error near line 1
awk: bailing out near line 1

Use nawk or /usr/xpg4/bin/awk on Solaris.

What if i want ed to print say the first and last customer and not just the first can i slightly alter this nawk???
