Hi,
The below solution is without using awk.
If you are not very particular about using awk, you can try this

tmp> cat tmp.txt
AB
BC
CD
DE
tmp>

#!/usr/bin/ksh
abc=`cat tmp.txt`
str=`echo $abc|sed "s/ //g"`
if [ $str = "ABBCCDDE" ]
then
echo "Y"
else
echo "N"
fi
