sort order HP UX / SUN Solaris
Hi!

simple 'sort' produces a different output on SUN OS than on HP.
Lines with empty fields inside the key are sorted at the beginning on SUN; on HP they are at the end.

i.e
SUN
03|ref|168126310|702578641||||||||||||||
03|ref|168126310|702578641|DEL|
03|ref|168126310|702578641|FW|
06|ref|168126310|702578641|10|

HP
03|ref|168126310|702578641|DEL|
03|ref|168126310|702578641|FW|
03|ref|168126310|702578641||||||||||||||
06|ref|168126310|702578641|10|

How to override this to get the same order on Solaris than on a HP OS. -n -u options are valid for both and no impact here.

Probably because Sun honors/has set the LANG environment variable. Try your command on both platforms with LANG=C set.

I cannot reproduce this so maybe another env varaiable or system setting is overwritting LANG.

LANG is empty for both OS, if I set it I get the same result on SUN.

$ LANG=C export LANG
$ sort test
03|ref|168126310|702578641||||||||||||||
03|ref|168126310|702578641|DEL|
03|ref|168126310|702578641|FW|
06|ref|168126310|702578641|10|

$ echo $LANG
C

I guess some SUN settings of below might have an impact here

LC_COLLATE=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_MESSAGES=C
LC_MONETARY=en_US.ISO8859-1
LC_NUMERIC=en_US.ISO8859-1

I tried to set them all on HP UX but no difference visible.
