If you have resources, better go for SVM.

make another volume, and attach to root.
after that, run Growfs on that volume.

Refer Sun docs for SVM, would be of great help.

what I understand from you post above is :

you have 4 more disks deployed as Raid 5, which you want now to be Raid 1 implemented.
