Script working in AIX, but giving error in SOLARIS

Try putting set -x in the start of the script....

Try putting set -x in the start of the script. And post the results.

I'm confused because I only get a syntax error from expr if I omit the quotes...
$ set -x

$ x=""
+ x=

$ expr substr...
