Make sure that the .rhosts file is owned by root, has read/write permission for root, and read only for group and others, or it won't work...

On you Solaris box, create a file on / named .rhosts
In this file, write the name of your Linux box.
This should do the trick.

You can use: # crontab -l > /tmp/root.cron #...
You can use:
# crontab -l > /tmp/root.cron
# vi /tmp/root.cron
---- make your changes
# crontab < /tmp/root.cron
then check your changes by
# crontab -l

Solaris 10 sparc is for sparc (from SUN microsytems) processors.
Solaris 10 x86 is for x86 architectured processors (i.e: intel-like architecture)
You'll need to install the x86 version.
