Numeric arguments can be specified as

+n for greater than n,

-n for less than n,

n for exactly n.


so find . -mtime +2...

In the gnu version of find there is a --depth option that can be used to limit how deep into subdiretories that it will find.

do you use nis or ldap for your name service? I have also seen this error when the shadow file is not correctly synched.
