Hi, Try to unmount the filesystem and run fsck -y against the LV. See if it finds and corrects the corruption to the filesystem. Then ty to increase the size... Hope this helps.

The main reason you are not able to view the disk is that th 5.1 cd you are trying to boot fom does not have the device drivers for the disk. Try using another media; probably the latest one!!! Hope...
