What language are you writing it in?

Boot up knoppix or knoppix-std or any other livecd and try to mount the harddrive and maybe youll find whats wrong, unless you have a bootdisk, you might as well ues it.

My friend tried to use colinux, it gave him some error though, im sure he didnt read documentation on it anyway.

I think you are looking at only the source port. You have to understand that if lets say i try to telnet you, the destination port of the connection would be 23 and the source port would be who knows...

Mplayer should do the trick ( does for me ) as long as you get the codecs with it.
