What do you want to do? Copy the whole rootdisk? Just retrieve some data? Do you already boot from the new disk? Is an OS installed?
Did the old disk work?

What's happening that's wrong? consider using set -x to see what you are doing where. Of course, [ "$1" == "text" ] && you get a problem.

You use automounter when you want the OS to take care of managing the mounts, and an vfstab entry leaves the managing to you...
