when you get on as root, use the passwd command...
when you get on as root, use the passwd command to change the pw... it seems to work a little more reliably.

ok.. i got it to work.. i did two things at the same time so i dont know which one actually did it..


i added my dns ip addy to resolve.conf
then i did route add 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.254
...

Automated FTP task
Every day i ftp tar.gz a file from the production server to a back up machine.. This task creates way to much traffic on the network at the end of the day and puts and undo load on the production...
