i can't use the "Is" command at my linux distribution(linux knoppel live cd)."Is" is only for unix or i don't type the command????????

i want a free unix download.i have seen some sites but i couldn't make it

ok i have linux mandrake 8.2 and i want to turn it to unix,but i don't know the settings.If i can't do it(make linux to unix) i want to use linux for the basic unix commands
