i logged out of my system n logged back in.. its working fine now. I still dont noe wat was wrong in the first place.
It was definitely not a stuck shift key or a problematic keyboard....

this s quite a foolish problem. I seem to hav pressed some keys s.t in unix, my letters are comin in caps and with caps lock on, i am getting lowercase letters. :o

I found the problem. One of ABC's sub directory did not have a write permission and almost all of the files were under that.:p

Did that. All sub- files and directories are also owned by me.

I am using:
rm -rf ABC #ABC is a non-empty directory

On long listing, for the directory ABC i get:
drwxr-xr-x 4 myname groupname 4096 Jan 24 16:11 ABC

The error message displayed is:
rm:...

i am trying to delete some files and also some directories. However, despite having the required permissions (i m the owner), Permission is being denied. I also tried to delete using find...
