What's wrong with tar? Maybe I missed something.

There is a company called Storix that makes a mksysb-like product for Linux and Solaris. I just downloaded it to try for my Solaris 11 systems. Gonna play with Linux version too.

Solaris 11 Express is not beta. It is a production version which you can get support for. Whether is stable enough to call production worthy might be debatable.
