i am known to the limitation of different shells while passing more than 9 command line arguments
i just tried the example below
i do see my current shell is tcsh

echo $SHELL...

none of the options are giving desired result

yes .i checked in ubunto /etc/shells works there

To find all of the available shells in your system we can use


cat /etc/shells


but i dont find shells in my system where else i can look for same info??

cut -d$ -f3 file it doesnot work too:(

I tried this command in all three shells TCSH BASH and KSH

it doesnot work

cat file
this is 1st line
this is 2nd
this is 3rd line
this is 4th line...

i want to use new line character in cut command

i want to display 3rd line of a file using cut only( not by sed or head -tail command)

can anyone suggest me ?
