Thanks, but what i need is
i need to run a script by using scriptname and parameter and iam unaware of where the script is placed..

just want to give scriptname parameter ... with out giving path...

i have developed a script and placed in a directory.. now i want to run this script from any of the directory, how can i achieve this?

how can i make a script to run only when parameters are given,
if parameters are not given it should through an error , saying "please enter a parameter"

for ex in a directory i have 3 files with names as
oldfile111.txt
oldfile222.txt
oldfile333.txt

i want this to be renames to
newfile111.txt
newfile222.txt...

How can i rename list of files in a directory?

adding to the that i have many strings like string2 to string3 .......
