You are probably looking at the parent PID.
When you look at the results of a ps -ef the first column is the PID, which is the parent ID, the next column is the PPID the is the child ID.

When I did a ps-ef on a host I noticed that the /usr/openwin/bin/fbconole process was started from the /etc/init PID, and was owned by the operator. What could have caused this issue?
