And now even more strange, I tried to connect with another ftp client and this is what happens :

ncftp> open host -u (user) -p (pass)
Connecting to (ip)...
(vsFTPd 2.0.1)
Logging in...
Login...

Dear fpmurphy,

I have no access to vsftpd.conf it is not managed by us...
And even if I had I couldn't change anything ;-)

I tried on two servers, same problem...
Both are vsftpd as far as I know...

Thanks a lot for your suggestion but in this case passive mode doesn't work at all (not in Filezilla either)... I can only work with active mode...
