I just want to know how to Shut Down the Solaris Machines( Servers ) for Maintainance and then Start Up the Machines ( Servers ) .

I think I will have to Log In as root to do that...

I have 1 IP that I need to remove from about 20( twenty ) *.txt files . If I will have to do this through VI , it will take a lot of time .
I will have to edit each file...

The first one is okay for me ..but when I am trying the second one I am getting

x[$0]++': Event not found .

Could it be because of permission restrictions on me ?>

i checked one file with permissions -rw-r--r-- and this code is showing it as 100644.

What are you using to view those file ??

I would use

1. cat filename.txt

or

2. vi filename.txt

please correct me if i am wrong

but you can also use

view filename.txt
...
