using lsof i have seen that only one process was writing to directory and killed the rest. then the space changed

i have deleted qf's and df's in my /var/spool/mqueue and my /var still remains at 99% full.

when i check users i get this:
# fuser -xuc /var
/var: 8072c(root) 18404(root) 19420c(root) ...

thanx a lot, i finally rebooted the server and it did the trick. the /temp is free

i have an aix5.3 box with a full /tmp. i emptied the tmp directory and still doesnt change from 100%. if i try to increase the /tmp size it keeps on wanting me to delete more files in the directory....

/dev/hd9var 819200 1928 100% 12101 12% /var


the filesystem is full my self being new to aix what do i do to create space

thanks, but this will just effect the file size change not tell you how to come up with the size

i am new in the field 3months to be precise. how do i come up with size, i want to change for the filesystem? assuming there is enough space on the volume group.
do i just assign any value?
