Plugged in the drive (Seagate drive with same part number but no Sun part number)...
Storage array seems to take the drive just fine...

Green light on the drive flashed for a moment....

The sun drive I remove (failed drive) part number is
SUN: ST314655SSUN146G
Seagate: ST3146855SS

And...

With a sun storage array j4200 with a failed drive.

It's got 11 other drive right now running seagate's
ST314655SSUN146G

I'm about to replace that one drive with seagate's ST3146356SS drive....

Sparse files have to be created deliberately right?
Seems like all files on the ZFS system behave the same way.


#ls -lh tracks.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle oinstall 2.0G May 16 03:32...

This is really strange... my system's du is reporting file size smaller than it really is... and it is only happening on one of Solaris 10 I have...


#ls -lrt tracks.txt
-rw-r--r-- 1 oracle ...

I'm not using the resource management but.. here's the output for prctl....

It's a binary executable that I do not have insight on how it works... :(

The point is that the script in question (with proc id: 3962)... opened only 265 files... well
below the limit that I set.. :(

I keep getting "Too many open files" in /var/adm/messages that I do not know how to fix.

I've searched for solution on this forum and have increased the file descriptors limit but the problem...

Well... it's doing it again....

vi takes around 5 - 10 seconds to save a small file....
login takes around 10 - 15 seconds to get a shell prompt....

Only happens to the container zones but not...

Well... the whole point of my investigation is to find out if I can coax out more
performance out of my current setup. I like to have the oracle zone (zone3)
use more memory to improve...

How do you figure that half of it is ZFS cache?
Is it the ZFS ARC cache that I kept reading about?

I also ran kstat and got this

# kstat zfs:0:arcstats:size | grep size |...

mdb result came back....

I'm running mdb now...Guess I have the older updates....it's taking a while.

How do you figure that I have 16GB of memory from the prstat output.

I'm just wondering if the low swap size (516.xx...

Nothing happens when I run

echo ::memstat | mdb -k

Does it take a long time to run?

I like to increase swap size for my current server running solaris 10.
Seems like the system is not using it's full 16G of physical memory.
