what would cause the nslookup to work one way but not the other?

for most machine it works both ways.

>nslookup 172.18.10.235

yes it is on unix. please explain how i can use the finger protocol. i have tryed:
finger [ip]

with no luck.

finger [username] gives me some info, but i wont know the user names, only the ip....

if i know the ip of a computer on the subnet, it it possible to findout the username of the user that is using that system?

du -sk /mystuff/*/*/work/*/prog/images | awk '{total = total + $1;} END {print total}'

though im guessing there is an easyier way

its not one directory, its hundreds. i want the total size of all of them together.

i have a selection of directories on a filesystem and i want to know the total size of the lot of them.

I can list the contence of them with:

find /mystuff/*/*/work/*/prog/images/

but...

i get 20 days plus bank holidays.
as far as i am concerned its not enough, i cant believe so many people only have 2 weeks!
