and if you really want to execute it like $ demo not like $ demo.sh

4. make an alias for it...

Check if cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/) suites your needs. There may be other tools but this is the only one i know.

sh - for scripting
I always let the shell the OS gives for the root account. As i use FreeBSD, csh that is.

Unix AFAIK works with hostnames and domains.
To find the domain from which you are part of you can use:

$ hostname

from hostname(1) manpage:

This command works on FreeBSD but i suppose it...
