How do you disable a server, #1, from trying to use the NIS that is running on another server, #2?

I would like the #1 server to just use the local etc/shadow file

getting "NFS mount: netapp : RPC: Program not registered" error

searched the site but none of the fixes from previous threads are helping

Trying to recover a root password on a Sun V580. Problem is I can not get it to recognize the STOP A to get to an OK prompt. Using USB keyboard and mouse.

I am changing the IP on my NIS server. Are there any files that need to be changed on my other servers that are using NIS?

The errors are coming up on my display and screwing up the console windows that I am trying to work from.
They take up about half the screen. Anyone know how I can stop them?
