The users are going to be a pain, I'd use perl and expect to move them. The printers will be easier, if you have AIX software support ask them how, when I did it (4.3.3 to 5.2) it was pretty fast.

In your post you mentioned that you were trying to combine spaces so I'm assuming that /testing1 and /testing2 are on different volume groups.

umount /testing1

varyoffvg </testing1 volume...
