There was something else mounted on /usr/local, but it didn't show up with the mount command.

# ppriv -e -D chmod +w local/
chmod: WARNING: can't change local/
# pwd
/usr

# ls -laFd /usr
drwxr-xr-x 33 root sys 1024 Nov 14 05:34 /usr/

No. It's got something to do with extended permissions, I think.

Never mind. Found it.

Permissions on /export/home/dncs were dr-xr-xr-x

Executed the following: chmod 755 /export/home/dncs

That fixed it.

Unable to log into solaris 8 CDE as a particular user. The errors are:

dtsession: Unable to start message server - exiting.
dtwm: Invalid keyword -- /TITLE

root can log in successfully.
