Tape drive issues with SCO 5.0.5!!!

Hi

Don't know if anyone will be able to help, but we're currently having problems with our external tape drive on our SCO server. If I try the following command for instance, "tar cvf /dev/rStp0", the tape drive jumps into action for a while, then comes back with the error "tar: cannot open: /dev/rStp0", theres an entry in /var/adm/messages...

I'm an AIX system adminitrator so know my way around unix although SCO is a bit alien to me, I've tried swapping the hardware, different tape drive, (Still a 40/80 with SCSI ID 6) and cable, media and rebooting etc, all to no avail, so don't believe it to be a hardware issue. What else can you suggest I check?

Thanks for you help in advance!!!

haven't worked with sco professionally so this is just a guess ---

if this has never worked, do you folks have the correct driver software for the tape drive?

if this has just recently went bonkers, what changed recently that might have affected the hardware drivers and/or the OS?

good luck!

Hi, This used to work, the tape drive was always defined as a 4/8mm DAT, which I admit is strange, but like I said, used to work for years. So guess something must have changed on the OS side of things, as the hardware has also been tested on another RS, which works fine. But my issue is not knowing what to check, to see whats changed? Guess could have a go at the drivers, does anyone know how to download upgrade these, guess it'll be a kernel rebuild?

Not sure if this will help you or not - Add tape drive to OpenServer
