How do I install a HP Network Printer on SCO admin ?

We have a SCO UnixWare system version 7.1.3, running a front end ERP system.

I have 2 new printers I would like to add so that people can print from the ERP system. The two printers are on the network and have IP address's. They are used throughout the day by Windows XP machines, but can not be used from the UNIX system.

How can I add these to the SCO box ?

This is the menu I have:

I presume I need to add it to the etc/hosts file first ? But this is the part I can not do.

Depends upon which tcp port number you want to use.
Either set up a remote printer in SCOAdmin using lpr/lpd, add the ip address to /etc/hosts, and then use the host name in the ip address field.
Assuming that scoadmin is the same on Unixware as Openserver, there is a menu ahead of the one you showed in your post that allows you to add support for HP printers, and add a HP printer on port 9100, (options 1 and 2)
Are the print files plain text, or do they have PCL5 escape sequences?
Add the destination name to the list of printer choices in the ERP software.
Adding the entry to the hosts file in either case, is not necessary, you can use the ip address directly in scoadmin, it just makes maintenance easier if you have to change the ip address of the printer at some future date.
Check to see if the print files have carriage returns. If not add "<esc>&k2G" to the printer initialization string.

I dont have the menu for the HP option.

The process seems to only allow me to do this:

A) Printer Setup Manager > Printer > Add Local Printer or...
B) Printer Setup Manager > Printer > Add TCP/IP Printer

I assume, as its a networked printer, I take option B, then this leads me into this screen:

Then I assume I take the <*>On Network option ?
or should I be taking the <*> On Remote Server option ?

The bottom option where it says "Remote Printer" if you look up on the select field, it looks at a list of already installed printers, but thats the point, I want it to be in this very list ??

Confusing - Can you see my point ?

You should use the network option. I would assume that "remote server" means a local printer attached to another Unixware system.
Is the list, installed printers only, or the contents of /etc/hosts?
Can you type the ip address/host name into the field at the bottom?

I should also qualify my advise and tell you that the only experience I have with Unixware is the three day installation/administration course that SCO provided when they first introduced version 7.

Yes, it worked, I entered the IP of the said printer into the bottom field and it worked ! After I added at the ERP end as well.

Although it doesn't list the printer in the etc/hosts, it still recognises and prints out.

Thanks for your help, whoever you are !!
