Partition Resize / Creation

Hello,

I'm new to SCO and I require some help...

I have an OLD HD which is about to die and I want to replace it with a new HD.

When I clone the HD with either Acronis or Ghost it wont allow me to resize the UNIX partition and I'm stuck with 80% of the new drive as unused space.

I haven't figure out how to use BackupEdge to backup and recover the system *trial version*

Is there a free way to resize the partition?
Or can I create a new partition / division, copy all the files from my current partition and change the auto mount paths?

Any help is appreciated!!!

Thanks,
David

Using Backup Edge is the easiest solution. Next is doing a fresh install on a new disk, and mounting the old disk as a second drive, and copying the files to the new drive.
You cannot re-size a partition without destroying the data on it.

Hey jgt,

thanks for the reply,

BackupEdge will allow the burning of Cd / DVD it says it's read only and I don't know how to proceed.

Are you positive that you have a dvd writer. If you have a dvd read cd read/write you will only be able to write cds, which is ok, it just means you will have to be present when you do a backup to put in a fresh cd. With compression, you should get about 1.5gb of disk per cd.
You never said which release you had, but you need 5.0.6 or later to run on a P4.

Thanks for helping me out

I have version 5 something i'm just not in front of the machine right now.

I do have DVD writer, it didn't work before so I had to mkdev cdrom to enable it.

does it effect this burning capability as the BackupEdge detects it as the actual device samsung DVD-RW....

I really only need to make one backup in order to restore to a larger partition thats all.

Thanks,
David

At the cost of another hard drive and using an emergency boot set you should be able to do two transfers using dd to accomplish resizing the root filesystem.

This might depend on the hardware you are dealing with.

partition resize

You can finish the work perfectly if you use the Partition Assistant.
And if you still have problem, you can get the useful information about resize partition I just got from my friend.Smilie
And I am sure you will solve the problem soon and efficiently.
