Well, if you don't mind, Firefox has a tarball version that you can simply download and extract and it is then available to use. You don't even need to remove the existing one (so has a lower risk of breaking things).
The major question is which version of Firefox you intend to install. For instance, some old glib version on my Fedora system does not allow me to run any Firefox version later than 1.5. You should check the system requirements and compare with those package versions that ship with your existing installation to make sure.
