No IP Address??

Hi,

I have written a client/server application running on Fedora.

I need the IP address of the server machine in order to connect.

Bringing up sbin/ifconfig -a and ip addr show give me no IP address for the machine under eth0.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks

Nothing no.
I am thinking maybe it has to do with the ifcfg-eth0 file?
Some configuration needed.
Maybe need to setup a static IP?

so I was able to asign a static IP to eth0

BUT

now I am getting errno 101 when trying to connect the socket to the IP address.
error 101: network unreachable

hmmmm....

any linux socket experts??

What's your local network like?

How are you trying to connect, to what?

I am working on a wired local network.
Two laptops wired together by ethernet cable.

I am able to ping IP's on the net etc etc but I cant ping the other laptops IP which according to ifconfig is 192.168.1.2

[edit] crosspost.

I don't know enough about your network to guess what's going wrong here.

Code:
[ 192.168.1.2 netmask ??? ] ------- [ ??? netmask ??? / ??? netmask ??? ] ----- [ ???

Please fill out more of this picture.

I should mention, they are both running Fedora 14.
Also played with firewall a bit and disabled it for all wired connections
