This server has a little over 3 Gigabytes of disk space for the operating system. That's not much, specially if /var is not a separate partition. That's why you have only a little less than 7 Megabytes left.
Even in a minimal redhat installation 5G (10G if installing X and Window Manager) for just the / mount point would be prudent. Creating different mount points for /var and /tmp

I understand that when the OS initially creates the FS and inodes, its pretty strict, but not always tuned to a 1:1 ratio. I see the same thing when adding a whole disk LV to a separate device.
