DHCP & DNS - Clients get IP but don't register in DNS
I am trying to setup a CentOS 6.2 server that will be doing 3 things DHCP, DNS & Samba for a very small office (2 users). The idea being this will replace a very old Win2k server. The users are all windows based clients so only the server will be Linux based.

I've installed CentOS 6.2 with DHCP, BIND 9 and also Webmin to aid config. DHCP seems to be working no problem with the WinXP test machine however it doesn't seem to register itself with the DNS server.

NSLookup on the XP client pauses and then says
DNS request timeout
timeout was 2 seconds
*** Can't find server name for address 10.0.0.1: Timed out
*** Default servers are not available
Default Server: UnKnown
Address: 10.0.01

I have configured reverse DNS. I've heard it's something to do with getting the DNS server to trust the DHCP server but I'm not clear on how to go about that.

NAME

       CURLOPT_DNS_CACHE_TIMEOUT - set life-time for DNS cache entries

SYNOPSIS

       #include <curl/curl.h>

       CURLcode curl_easy_setopt(CURL *handle, CURLOPT_DNS_CACHE_TIMEOUT, long age);

DESCRIPTION

       Pass  a	long,  this  sets the timeout in seconds. Name resolves will be kept in memory and used for this number of seconds. Set to zero to
       completely disable caching, or set to -1 to make the cached entries remain forever. By default, libcurl caches this info for 60 seconds.

       The name resolve functions of various libc implementations don't re-read name server information unless explicitly told so (for example, by
       calling	res_init(3)).  This  may  cause libcurl to keep using the older server even if DHCP has updated the server info, and this may look
       like a DNS cache issue to the casual libcurl-app user.

       Note that DNS entries have a "TTL" property but libcurl doesn't use that. This DNS cache timeout is entirely speculative that a	name  will
       resolve to the same address for a certain small amount of time into the future.
