Questions About RHEL 6, CentOS 5.5 download and install

Hi, I have some questions about RHEL and CentOS download and installation.

(1) Is RHEL6.0 x86_64 beta downloaded from Red Hat site working fine?

(2) Where to download CentOS 5.5 DVD iso without using BitTorrent?

(3) What are the differences between these two images - CentOS 5.5 i386 and CentOS 5.5 x86_64? One for 32 bit and one for 64 bit. That's it?

Thanks a lot!

RHEL 6 is out of beta, I don't think beta software is usually up to scratch for anything except beta testing. Your mileage may vary.

www.centos.org - centos.org content

5 seconds on google. You can download it here.

Yes, x86_64 is AMD64/EM64T or 64bit x86. i386 is 32bit.

(1) I am NOW downloading RHEL 6 from Index of /pub/redhat/rhel/beta/6.0/x86_64/iso. I'd like to know if this beta version working fine before installing it.

(2) If you go to http://mirror.centos.org/centos/5/isos/, you will understand my question.

Thanks.

RHEL 6 is already released, but apparently you can only download it after registering with Red Hat. A beta release, as the name implies, may or may not work, depending on your hardware and the installed software.

Due to the size of the DVD, not all CentOS mirrors provide the image for download. If you go to the mirror list you can select a mirror that does provide the full image for direct download.

This is the answer I was expecting. By using your link, I've got this site with direct DVD iso download: Index of /centos/5.5/isos/x86_64

Thanks a lot pludi for your help Smilie

Another question is if RHEL 6 release is free to download. I guess the answer is No.

I didn't check it thoroughly, but I think it's free to download, after you registered with Red Hat. Similar to how you have to register with Oracle to download the free XE RDBMS.

You have to pay if you want to download RHEL6 GA binaries from Red Hat. You can however download the sources from ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/ and built it yourself.
