What is the optimal approach to reboot the linux server

Hi All,
Our Linux server were rebooted 723 days before and now We have decided to reboot the server due to server performance.

Could someone advise us what is the optimal duration of a server reboot ?

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards,
Arun

Each server will take different amounts of time to reboot. I would make sure you have current backups, as there have been accounts of servers running happily through failures that have stopped a reboot.

May be slower than you think depending on the number of disks and filesystems as an fsck will probably be done on each filesystem due to the long time between reboots. man tune2fs for more information.
