caddr_t problem

caddr_t problem
I am using caddr_t to create a shared var, but the structure accepts a char*, and hence I cannot store values higher than 127 in my program. Is there any other structure I can use to pass an int? to increase my available range?

POSIX has typedef char* caddr_t;

Code:
caddr_t p
long i=0;
...........
memcpy(&i,p,sizeof(long));

gets around the problem as you wanted. But you can do this:

caddr_t p;
// If p is guaranteed to be null terminated  from p to an int

int i=atoi(p);
........
// from int to p
sprintf(p,"%d",i);

but what if i directly typecasted caddr_t p to int* p? I tried this, and seems to work well, do you think there will be a problem here? I just need to use it for a shared memory variable which stores an int...

Yes you can cast, no problem.

Just to state the obvious, there'll be fewer integers in a given block of memory than there are characters. sizeof(int) will tell you how many characters there are to one integer on your system. It can change from platform to platform.
