Question CGI's Performance
Hi,

Can any one tell me that whether CGI based web application is good for handling high traffic applications or reporting tool or ERP application?

I'm specific with C with Mysql.
Any resource or a little advantages of CGI for such application are welcome.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this but I would suggest taking a look at FastCGI instead of "normal CGI".

However I have no experience at all with the performance you might need and you'll hopefully soon get far better responses. Smilie

Iin general, if the cgi app does a lot of processing, then the start time does not really matter. If the cgi app does just a little, and is called very frequently, then it's worth looking into fastcgi or other "stay-resident" or thread-based method, as already suggested. Or you can just use faster / distributed hardware, which might possibly even be more cost-effective.

If it's a high-traffic site (meaning a lot of client requests per unit time), then CGI will incur a lot of expense in fork-exec. In such a situation, FCGI would definitely be preferable.

So, what is high traffic? That depends on how much work each request generates and your hardware.
