Multithreading in POSIX

Here is simple code for multithreading in POSIX:

Code:
void* simplethread(void* arg)
{
   printf("Hello World\n");
}

int main(void)
{
   pthread_t id;

   pthread_create(&id, NULL, simplethread, NULL);

   return 0;
}

Whether the new thread will run or not depends on the OS. Tricky Smilie .

Trying your code I get:
$ gcc xthread.c -o xthread
$ ./xthread
hello world
RESULT 0 THREAD 2

^C
$

I had to type CNTL-C because of your "while(1);". What result did you expect?

Laughing out loud, you are doing better than I (Linux):

Code:
www# gcc a.c
/tmp/cc2Xqv2o.o(.text+0x36): In function `main':
: undefined reference to `pthread_create'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Guess this platform is missing some pthread libbys Smilie

Oh, Neo! I hope you're sitting down!

I was using Microsoft's SFU running on Windows XP! Smilie

But this illustrates an important principle. _rocky, please tell us what OS and compiler you're using.
