Do you have GNU date or a compatable date routine that accepts the -d option eg:

$ date -d "20070101 + 1day"
Tue, Jan 02, 2007 12:00:00 AM

It means:
${parameter:-word}
Use Default Values. If parameter is unset or null, the expansion of word shall be substituted; otherwise, the value of parameter shall be substituted.
